First confirmation of Galactic shadowing from ROSAT
Abstract
Rosat soft X-ray data are reviewed which confirm 'shadowing' at two positions on the Draco nebula. This finding supports the Bonn prediction of an increase in the X-ray source function with increasing height over the Galactic plane and nearly proves the existence of a Galactic corona. The portion of the emission behind the absorbing cloud is greater than that in the foreground by a factor of 10. This observation is difficult to explain in the context of the Solar Hot Bubble model. There may be a continuous transition of the Galactic halo to an intergalactic X-ray background.
